change, like a tide

change, like a tide

listening (and re-listening) to change from big thief:

i sing it to myself often, in change and when reflecting on change. especially the first verse: change, like the wind / like the water, like skin / change, like the sky / like the leaves, like a butterfly.

and i add to it: change, like the tide, like time, and times.

because change comes to me in waves, because change washes up parts of me on my own shore of being, parts which i want to know better.

because change has pull and push, does roll me and then floats me too.

some changes:

one: after thirteen years, 2012-2025, the non-profit hives for humanity has closed. relationally it took 3 years, and administratively an extra one on top of that. held by the community of the DTES throughout, and its many loving tendrils. in all of the grief and all of the joy. it's a difficult and beautiful thing to do: a closing. difficult because there is loss and so there is grief too. and beautiful in all that is revealed, the waves and ripples of change, the movement within. i'm practicing. practicing closings, practicing releasing, practicing openings.

two: after Sept 1997 - Feb 2026 on lands and waters of Sḵwx ̱ wú7mesh (Squamish), Səl ̓ ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) and xʷməθkʷəy ̓ əm (Musqueam) peoples, i'm moving up the coast to qathet. so, spring 2026 will turn for me on Tla'amin lands.

three: i'm learning irish, slowly. labhraím gaeilge gach la. haddon is ainm dom. is rón me. saoirse don phalaistín. slán go fóill. (i speak irish every day. haddon is my name. i am a seal. freedom for palestine. see you soon.)

a closing gift, an opening practice, a moon calendar: for the glimmers and the glimmering.

yarrow for witness, snake for transformation, moon snail for loving practice
